All Nerd Review goes to Toy Fair 2006!

So, for the fourth year running, All Nerd Review goes to Toy Fair!

We trudged through bilzzards and icy sidewalks with shoes that no amount of duct tape could fix. We saw a guy almost get hit by a fishtailing mail truck, buses hopelessly spinning their tires in the middle of intersections, and the eerie silence that a snowstorm brings to NYC. Brian was forced to buy gloves and a second hat, and me, I bought a fedora. And let me tell you, I look RADIANT in a fedora.

It worries me a bit that the hat materials are listed as '80% wool, 20% mucilage glue', but when you look this good, you can't really worry about wearing an inappropriately gluey hat. Hell, if glue is the secret to sexy, I want ALL of my clothes to be 20% glue.

So, after arriving in Grand Central, Brian and I did our best to find an operating subway, but alas, all subways that would bring us to the toy buildings were shut down. We decided to walk to the Toy Buildings for registration, many, many blocks away. It was early in the day, we were young, healthy guys, and we knew we could make it. However, once we reached the toy buildings, the Toy Folks had unexpectedly moved the Press Office to the Javitz Center. Disappointment was felt by all, as well as a little wetness.

Luckily, we encountered the one and only shuttle bus that was to be operating that day. Usually, Toy Fair has free shuttles from the Toy Buildings to the Javitz Center every ten minutes. Today, because of the pre-apocalyptic freezing act of god, there was only one bus. We'd not be overcome though - not when toys were the object of affection in question.

We held only two appointments, both with the two major action figure forces of the year - ToyBiz and Mattel. ToyBiz would be shutting its doors at the end of 2006, and Mattel had just debuted an impressive Superheroes line that everyone was dying to see. The rest of the time would be spent wandering the madness of the Javitz floors. With only one day's worth of attendance planned, we had to fit a lot in.

So, please click through the galleries on the following pages for commentary, and please go to CollectorsQuest.com in the coming 2 weeks , where I'll be writing individual reports on ToyBiz, Sideshow Toys and Mattel. Brian will also be doing a guest review of the Mimobot that we got!
